ScreenVue is the result of a joint venture and partnership between Christian Video Licensing International (CVLI) and Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) and Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC).

ScreenVue first launched in 2003 as a service of CVLI. The CVLI Church Video License provides legal coverage for churches and for other ministry organizations to show DVDs, Blu-rays, movie downloads and streams of motion pictures. Each organization needs to be specifically covered. Coverage includes playing just a few seconds of a movie all the way up to showing the full-length feature.

Each *Total Producer Church Video License* and *Standard CVLI Video License* (or any *Church Video Licence* globally) comes with free ScreenVue Vault access.

The ScreenVue Vault offers 11,000+ Scene Ideas and Downloads from a variety of movies and resources. 

ScreenVue saves you hours of time finding that perfect movie illustration for next Sunday’s sermon, child or youth service, or video announcement!

### CCLI

Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) was established in 1988 to provide churches with simple, affordable solutions to complex copyright issues. CCLI helps churches maintain their integrity while giving them the freedom to worship expressively and spontaneously.

Churches often face copyright infringement issues in two areas: 1) copying music without permission, and 2) showing movies without authorization.

For copying music to assist with congregational singing, the Church Copyright License provides blanket coverage for 300,000+ songs and 4,500+ publishers and song owners. Currently, global churches are using 600,000+ CCLI licenses.

### CVLI

From a unique partnership between Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) and Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC), Christian Video Licensing International (CVLI) and the Church Video License was formed in 2001.

The Church Video License provides churches with legal coverage to show all, or any portion of, thousands of movie titles from a number of movie producers, including all the major studios. Currently, the titles from almost 3,000 producers are represented by the Church Video License, including the titles that contain all the Scene Ideas and Scene Downloads that are part of the ScreenVue Vault.

__"Where can I find my Access Key to sign-in with?"__
- Every Church Video Licence globally and every *Total Producer Church Video License* (or *Standard CVLI Video License*) in the USA comes with FREE access to the ScreenVue Vault, which is unlocked with your Access Key. Your Access Key will be included in the monthly CVL update emails you receive. __"Why won't my Access Key work?"__
- The usual reason for the Access Key not to work (and a footer error message to appear) is that something is missing from the sign-in protocol.
- Enter the *Email address* associated with your Church Video License (or CCLI account).
- Enter the *Access Key* found in your last CVL update email (exactly, with no spaces).
- Select the *Terms of Use* and a *Keeping in Touch* option.
- You should be in! If you have done all this and still have a problem, please let us know and we'll dig further.

__"In the USA, why don't I have access as a CVL Family Values Package member?"__
- The *CVL Family Values Package* offers only 65+ studios and producers, and does not include any major/minor Hollywood studios - and does not come with ScreenVue Vault access.

__"What are the restrictions for streaming our service and including a movie scene? "__
- For churches that stream their services and want to include any part of a movie (the entire film or just a scene), the Church Video License terms do not cover streaming a movie scene - even if used in a sermon - over the internet to the general public.
- However, it is permissible to live stream a movie scene inside the facility as long as it is a closed-stream (not accessed publicly). 
- In light of COVID-19, the Church Video License has made temporary modifications to the license: For churches that stream their services and want to include any part of a movie, they can use a platform that is gated or private (password protected entry to only members and guests and not open to the general public), such as Zoom (requiring a password to join).

Lewis mentions their atheist friend, Weldon: "How could he, of anyone, take the Bible literally?  It's a fictional anthology of myths and legends!"  While they speak, the two watch a beautiful stag meander through the woods.  Tolkien: "Pagan myths are born through God expressing Himself.  But the myth of Christ, that is God expressing Himself through Himself.  And, what makes it more than myth is that Christ actually walked the earth among us.  His dying transforms myth into truth.  And it transforms the lives of all those who believe in Him."  Lewis, still skeptical: "John, you're a scholar.  Don't you have an obligation to the truth?"  Tolkien, pointedly: "Yes.  The same as you.  So, do your research.  Examine the evidence."


Freud is thinking back over the negative influence of religion in his young life.  "I was raised by a strict Catholic nanny who took me to church every Sunday."  We see young Sigmund and his nanny in a church.  Freud: "She was like a mother to me."  Next, we see young Sigmund in his father's study, listening to him read from the Torah.  A lit menorah is on the desk beside him.  Freud: "My father, he was equally devout in his beliefs."  As the father finishes reading, the boy crosses himself automatically, an appropriate response in the Catholic church, but not to a devout Jew.  Freud's father is enraged.  He bodily throws the nanny out of the house.  She cries out to Sigmund: "You must pray for your father so he can go to heaven!"  Father, venomously: "There is no heaven."  Nanny: "Not for you!"  He screams for her to go and grabs his son by both shoulders: "Do not pray for me!  Ever!"  Sigmund watches his beloved nanny walk out of his life.  Back in the present, Freud: "The battling Bibles, ja?"


Dr. Freud is talking to his daughter and recalls a visit with Albert Einstein. He shares the physicist's quote on insanity, "The true indication of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over and over...and expecting different results."  Daughter: "So the surest indication of sanity would be the ability to change your mind."


The air raid sirens are blaring across the city.  Freud and Lewis are hurried into the basement of a nearby church to prepare for an eventual bombing.  As Lewis descends into the crowded basement, the flickering lights, the noise, the panic in the air all work together to bring back memories of his time in the first great war.  He begins to whimper, hearing again the screams of his fallen comrades.  Finally, he cowers against the wall, unable to take a step further because of his paralyzing anxiety.  As he cries, Freud works with him to overcome his panic attack.  Soon, the lights come back on and a voice announces: "False alarm.  All clear."


Lewis is remembering the last time he fought during the war.  He and Paddy run across No-Man's-Land, bullets whizzing by their heads.  A very young Lewis looks stunned, like he can't believe where he is.  Soon, something explodes near the two of them.  Paddy is killed instantly.  Lewis is wounded, but able to run.  He continues running towards the Germans when another blast sends him flying into a foxhole.  He lies at the bottom of the hole, too wounded to climb out.  A dead man lies beside him.  Lewis screams for help, but no one hears him above the sounds of war.


Freud and Lewis are discussing who Jesus really was.  Freud: "That Christ was a man, I don't argue.  Like Muhammad or Buddha."  Lewis: "But, only Christ claimed to be the Messiah.  He even claimed the power to forgive sins.  How absurd is that?"  Freud: "Professor Lewis, perhaps you could help me understand something?  It's a conundrum, a puzzle that has kept me terribly confused for a long time."  Lewis: "Of course."  Freud: "Why should I take Christ's claim to be God more seriously than the numerous patients I've treated over several years who claim to be Christ?  I believe those poor, wretched patients of mine were all raving lunatics.  So, I must conclude that you yourself, and your friends, and yes, the good Carpenter of Nazareth must all have been a little..."  He makes a motion indicating crazy with his hand.  Lewis: "Did you find a single person whose concept of reality was otherwise sound?"  Freud: "No."


Freud and Lewis are discussing the various world mythologies when the problem of good and evil comes up.  Freud: "Your God, who created good, or whatever that is, He must also have created the bad and the evil.  He allowed Lucifer to live.  He let him flourish."  Lewis: "God gave Lucifer free will, which is the only thing that makes goodness possible.  A world filled with choice-less creatures is a world of machines!  It's men, not God, who created prisons and slavery and bombs.  Man's suffering is the fault of man."  Freud: "So, is that your excuse and explanation for pain and suffering?  I mean, did I bring about my own cancer?  Or, is killing me God's revenge for my disbelief?"  Lewis: "I don't know.  I don't know."  Freud: "You don't know?  Professor Lewis, I am shocked."  Lewis: "I don't know, and I don't even pretend to.  It's the most difficult question of all, isn't it?"  Here, Lewis posits questions and statements he hears often from others: "If God is good, then He'd make all of His creatures perfectly happy.  But we're not.  We're not.  So, God lacks goodness.  Or power.  Or both.  I don't know."  Freud, thinking Lewis is coming around to his side: "Finally, we're making progress."  But Lewis was merely stating hypotheticals.  Now, he states his own belief: "What if God wants to perfect us through suffering?  Make us realize that happiness, real happiness, eternal happiness can only come through Him.  If pleasure is His whisper, pain is His megaphone."


Lewis is trying to discern why Sigmund Freud has invited him to his home.  He assumes at first it is because he satirized Freud in his latest novel as a bombastic and vain ignoramus.  Expressing a hope that Freud didn't take personal offense, Lewis continues: "I cannot apologize for challenging your worldview when it completely negates my own.  That there is a God.  That a man doesn't have to be an imbecile to believe in Him.  And, those of us who do, are not suffering from an obsessional neurosis."  Freud: "Why would you come here to see me if you disagree so passionately with my views?"  Lewis: "Not all of them.  I must admit I was shocked when I read that you declared Pilgrim's Progress a work of genius.  Seriously?  A clash between God and Satan?"  Freud: "Ah, but I did not say whose side I was on, did I?"  Lewis: "You've insisted all your life that the very concept of God is ludicrous.  So, why do you care what I think if you're satisfied in your disbelief?  Why am I here?"  Freud: "Uh, curiosity.  Why someone of your supreme intellect would suddenly abandon truth and then embrace a ludicrous dream, an insidious lie!"  Lewis: "What if it isn't a lie?  You ever consider how terrifying it would be to realize that you're wrong?"  Freud: "Not half as terrifying as it would be for you, my friend.  You said earlier that you challenge my worldview, you challenge my belief and disbelief, is that correct?"  Lewis: "I do, yes."  Freud: "Good.  Welcome to my den!"

Freud and Lewis have been discussing the problem of evil (see clip # CV11797).  If God is good, why does He allow so much evil?  Freud, passionately: "How often do we say to ourselves, 'God is a mystery.  We are small, He is mighty.  It is God's plan?'"  Freud, crying now, picks up a photograph of a beautiful young woman holding a smiling baby boy.  Freud: "That was my daughter, Sophie.  She was the apple of my eye.  And she died from the Spanish Influenza at 27-years-old.  She was a mother.  And a wife.  And my little grandson.  He was plucked from us.  Killed by tuberculosis at the age of five.  What a wonderful plan for God to kill a little boy!  I'll tell you something, I wish that cancer had eaten into my brain instead of my cheek and my jaw, so that I could hallucinate God and seek my bloody vengeance on Him!  Bloody hypocrites!  There's so much pain in this world!  And this is God's plan?"


Freud, a confirmed atheist, is curious to know what brought a noted intellectual and Oxford don to believe in God.  He asks Lewis: "So, tell me, was it your parents who injected you with this fairy tale of faith?"  Lewis: "No.  My faith ended with my childhood.  I buried it along with my mother.  She died when I was quite young."  Lewis goes on to describe how his father was so broken by grief that he sent his sons away to another country for boarding school.  Lewis: "It was perhaps my life's greatest trauma."  But, on his next birthday, Lewis's brother made him a miniature forest in a biscuit tin.  Lewis: "I thought it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen.  The moment I saw it, it created a yearning I never felt before.  I called that feeling joy.  I still do."  Freud: "And you think that was an inherent desire for a Creator?"  Lewis nods, smiling: "Yes."
