ScreenVue is the result of a joint venture and partnership between Christian Video Licensing International (CVLI) and Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) and Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC).

ScreenVue first launched in 2003 as a service of CVLI. The CVLI Church Video License provides legal coverage for churches and for other ministry organizations to show DVDs, Blu-rays, movie downloads and streams of motion pictures. Each organization needs to be specifically covered. Coverage includes playing just a few seconds of a movie all the way up to showing the full-length feature.

Each *Total Producer Church Video License* and *Standard CVLI Video License* (or any *Church Video Licence* globally) comes with free ScreenVue Vault access.

The ScreenVue Vault offers 11,000+ Scene Ideas and Downloads from a variety of movies and resources.

### CCLI

Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) was established in 1988 to provide churches with simple, affordable solutions to complex copyright issues. CCLI helps churches maintain their integrity while giving them the freedom to worship expressively and spontaneously.

Churches often face copyright infringement issues in two areas: 1) copying music without permission, and 2) showing movies without authorization.

For copying music to assist with congregational singing, the Church Copyright License provides blanket coverage for 300,000+ songs and 4,500+ publishers and song owners. Currently, global churches are using 600,000+ CCLI licenses.

### CVLI

From a unique partnership between Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) and Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC), Christian Video Licensing International (CVLI) and the Church Video License was formed in 2001.

The Church Video License provides churches with legal coverage to show all, or any portion of, thousands of movie titles from a number of movie producers, including all the major studios. __"What are the restrictions for streaming a movie scene in my service?"__
- For churches that stream their services and want to include any part of a movie (the entire film or just a scene), the Church Video License terms do not cover streaming a movie scene - even if used in a sermon - over the internet to the general public.
- However, it is permissible to live stream a movie scene inside the facility as long as it is a closed-stream (not accessed publicly). 
- In light of COVID-19, the Church Video License has made temporary modifications to the license: For churches that stream their services and want to include any part of a movie, they can use a platform that is gated or private (password protected entry to only members and guests and not open to the general public), such as Zoom (requiring a password to join).

"Hippie" evangelist Lonnie Frisbee speaks to a rapt crowd of young people: "Jesus Christ willingly went to the cross.  And He died.  He gave His life."  Chuck Girard describes coming to Calvary Chapel to hear Lonnie's message and meeting Chuck Smith: "He did exude love and it was so different from what I thought it would be.  There was a great power of God in that building and I was overwhelmed by it."  Coomes also tells the story of his own transformation at Calvary Chapel: "We all got radically saved.  And that spun the whole thing around.  So, for me, after that, man, there was no turning back.  This wasn't just a good idea.  This was darkness to light and loneliness to joy." Lonnie: "And the church, for so long, has been expecting a certain mold of what a Christian should look like or what a Christian should be or what a Christian should say.  And God is blowing everybody's mind, because He's saving the hippies.  And nobody thought a hippie could be saved."  


Russ Taff is a successful gospel singer who is open about his struggle with alcoholism.  His father was a Pentecostal preacher and a harsh alcoholic.  Russ admits that his father wrecked his life.  Russ fights back tears as he shares how music impacted his young life when he heard his mother singing gospel music.  Russ; "So, even as a child, I was looking outside myself for something to fill that hole on the inside.  Growing up with the messages, daily, 'You're not worth the bullet to shoot yourself with,' and 'You'll never amount to anything.'  And, after awhile, you start believing it."  Russ describes how he would go to his father's church at night, all by himself, and just talk to Jesus.  Russ: "Somebody told me He was a Friend and I could talk to Him.  And I would tell Jesus how scared I was.  I didn't know a lot about Him.  There was no grace.  The only Jesus I knew was, I was hanging over by a thread, over Hell.  It was all based around guilt and so I had that Jesus.  But then there was that Jesus that I would go down to church late at night and tell Him how scared I was.  That was my only safe place.  That and music."

Video clips and photos show True in life, an aspiring rapper and a beloved son.  Toby: "There's only two ways.  Either you don't believe, or you do, at this point, for me.  And, if I do believe, I have to believe in a God that's good.  So, how can I get to the point where I believe that that's good for my son somehow?  And it's good for me?  That's the fight." Several recording artists and pastors share about their lives in the sixties before Christ.  Chuck Girard: "My philosophy was that God had given us LSD and that if you weren't brave enough to experiment with drugs, you'd miss God.  'Cause I thought that was the secret key."  Greg Laurie: "We took drugs to discover.  We were trying to find answers."  Coomes: "We had two great loves that kind of bound us together.  It was the love of making music and this really driving urge to find out who God was."  But it didn't take long for these men to realize that the way they were trying to reach God was at best an illusion and, at worst, death.  Laurie: "Then, when we saw our rock stars die before our eyes...Jimmie Hendrix and Janice Joplin and Jim Morrison, all dead of incidents related to drugs..."  A clip from an interview of George Harrison shows Dick Cavett confronting him about his responsibility in leading his fans down the dark road of addiction.  Coomes: "The drugs didn't work.  All the free thinking and LSD and all that stuff just left people rather hopeless.  We began to hit the bottom."  Glenn Kaiser: "The war inside didn't go away, even though we 'exercised our freedom' to be, do, and experience whatever we wanted to experience."  Girard: "I'm still empty.  I'm still clueless.  We're sitting there kinda bewildered, thinking, 'Where do I go from here?'  And that's when we started to hear about Calvary."  (Caution: drug references)


Kirk Franklin, fatherless and adopted, describes how God's love drew him at a young age: "The idea of God pulled on my heart very early."  He recalls overhearing his biological mother say that she did not want him and we see a young boy covering his ears, hunched over in pain.  The boy climbs onto the roof at night to look at the stars and talk to the God who did not reject him as his mother had.  Kirk: "Looking at the stars and having these really personal conversations, I can remember the fabric of those moments."

As CCM has shifted to more of a worship-focus, songs have become less associated with artists and more with a connection to God.  Phil Wickham: "There's nothing more beautiful to me than the people of God singing the praises of God."  Clips show huge groups of people raising their hands in the air and worshipping God.  Kari Jobe: "Music could shift a whole atmosphere of a room and help people get on their face before God.  'Cause we're created for the eternal.  We're created for the sacred."  Joel Houston: "Worship, it's an opportunity to create a space to connect with the deepest of deeps within us."  Chris Tomlin: "What we're doing tonight is eternal.  And, let's not forget, music is God's idea."  As Hillsong sings, "Oceans," thousands sing along with them.  Clip after clip shows individuals singing the words of that song in worship to God.  Matt Redman: "Sometimes, when God moves, He's accompanied by a soundtrack.  And so often it's not the soundtrack that releases the thing, it's that God's moving and then there's this kind of musical outburst because of what God's doing."


Glenn Kaiser is talking about the mainstream church's initial reaction to the Jesus Movement, a movement of counter-cultural youth in the sixties who called themselves Jesus freaks.  (These youth had long hair and didn't look like the usual clean-cut church-goers, and their music was closer to rock than hymns.)  Glenn: "Well, here comes the Jesus Movement, and a whole lot of us had encounters with the Living, Risen Jesus Christ.  And then, we showed up in traditional churches, I would have to say the majority of whom were going, 'Whoa, persona non grata!'"  Glenn makes the sign of the cross, as if warding off evil: "You look weird.  Your music is weird.  Three songs in, gray-haired deacons in suits and ties with their necks red and veins popping, coming down the aisle to shut us down."  Another musician had a similar experience: "They wouldn't let us in church doors, man."  He told of how church pastors would warn their flock to stay away from their music.  Girard: "And that was a lot of people's attitude.  'If these guys are really Christians, why don't they shave their beards?  Why don't they cut their hair?'"  Coomes: "We didn't get invited into church.  We just went.  And, a lot of times, people would go, 'Who let these people in here?'  Time after time, we'd be shakin' in our boots goin' like, 'Lord, we have nothing in common with these people.'  And they're obviously judging us."


Several black artists address the issue of racism in the world and in the church.  Kirk Franklin: "You want to find a loving way to be able to have these conversations about racial reconciliation.  There's still not a tangible plan to address this separation between these two worlds.  And, until that is addressed, we will never find the healing that is really needed for this country."  Lecrae: "If the church truly believes that we are one body, the church will tear down those racial divides."  Tait then tells a personal story that accentuates the ongoing problem of racism.  In 2003, he was in a small town in Tennessee when a shop owner told him he'd better leave town before dark: "We'll hang you.  We'll hang you round here, boy, you don't get outta here by dark."  Tait: "I said, 'You're gonna hang me in the 21st century?  In 2003, you gonna hang me?'  He says, 'Yeah, we'll hang you, buddy boy.  After dark.'  Here I am, a guy that's made it.  I've made money, I've got Grammy awards, I've made music, I've been successful.  And that one comment, in that one moment, in that one town, in that one minute made me feel less than...less than human.  And it hit me like a truck loaded with steel.  The healing will never start until the healing begins where the hurt is.  We've got to be on the same page."  Kirk: "If we are the light of the world, no wonder why the world is so dark.  Because our light is fragmented."
