Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) was established in 1988 to provide churches with simple, affordable solutions to complex copyright issues. CCLI helps churches maintain their integrity while giving them the freedom to worship expressively and spontaneously.
Churches often face copyright infringement issues in two areas: 1) copying music without permission, and 2) showing movies without authorization.
For copying music to assist with congregational singing, the Church Copyright License provides blanket coverage for over 300,000 songs and over 4,500 publishers and song owners. Currently, over 200,000 churches globally are Church Copyright License holders.
From a unique partnership between CCLI and Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC), Christian Video Licensing International (CVLI) and the Church Video License was formed in 2001.
The Church Video License provides churches with legal coverage to show all, or any portion of, thousands of movie titles from a number of movie producers, including all the major studios. Currently, the titles from over 1,000 producers are represented by the Church Video License, including the titles that contain all the Scene Downloads and Scene Ideas that are part of the ScreenVue subscription service.
For over 20 years, the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation, (MPLC) has been regarded as a leading source of copyright information as well as provider of the Umbrella License® for non-commercial movie exhibitions.
Since its inception, the use of media for home-use only has expanded far beyond its original purpose. Today, organizations utilize movies not only for entertainment, but as training tools and supplements to their existing programs.
Currently, over 450,000 locations are covered under the MPLC Umbrella License, including multi-national corporations, federal, state and local government agencies and non profit organizations.
